Before you’re born, your gender is categorized by limitations of what each gender should be. Pink is for girls, blue is for boys, girls are feminine, while boys have to be masculine. Growing up, I was too feminine to be a boy and was taught what a “proper” boy should act like. This series was first inspired by the controversy that happened in 2011 with the Witterick Family and their child Storm. The family decided to raise Storm, as gender-neutral allowing their child to pick whatever he/she likes, as well as pick what pronouns the child would decide to be called. Through maturity, I’ve noticed my transition from what I was to what I was taught to be, to now where I’ve accepted myself and broke the limitations that society has set. The series Let Boys Be Feminine is a commentary take on what if I was allowed to be the way I was growing up.
